The Selective Eligibility Test (SET), is the entrance exam for grammar schools in the Sutton borough, and for St Olave’s in Orpington, Kent. It is an evolved version of the 11+. Concerns were raised about the objectivity of the original 11+ exam when it became apparent that extensive tutoring was skewing the annual pupil intakes in favour of the richer families capable of affording this private coaching.
A new exam was devised, designed in such a way as to neutralise this threat, and ensure that the students being admitted were the most intelligent rather than simply the richest.
The SET must be taken to be considered for entry to the following schools:

What is the SET in Sutton?
The Selective Eligibility Test also known as SET is a fairly new 11+ test introduced in 2013 by the grammar schools within the London borough of Sutton, and in 2015 by St Olave’s. It is designed to help get a better understanding about whether or not certain pupils will be eligible for a place at their school.
So, in simple terms, once a child begins Year 6 at primary school they will sit the test at a designated school. The results of this extremely competitive test will determine whether or not they are invited back to sit the second stage of the 11+ entrance tests giving them a chance of gaining a place at one of the 4 grammar schools in the borough.
What is the SET in Orpington?
The Selective Eligibility Test was introduced by St Olave’sGrammar School in Orpington in 2015. This Stage 1 entrance test is made up of English Comprehension, Maths, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning examined in only one paper.

Practice SET papers produced by MockTestMasters are available for purchase.
With the SET being a fairly new test (launched in 2013), very limited information is available on what to expect. All the participating schools, have stated that the content will contain material covered by schools at Key Stage 2 in Maths and English.
Our mock test papers have been designed to cover some of what we know was examined in previous tests and Key Stage 2 content in both subjects.
SelectiveEligibilityTests.com is the specialist website for information on the selective eligibility test. Run by 11plus Ltd, specialist providers of 11+ information, we aim to provide up-to-date information on the SET. Please tell others about this website.
